DIY Project

Hopefully this is the last DIY project I do for awhile! It did turn out pretty well though. I bought a cheap frame from hobby lobby and some small clips to hold the pictures on rope. Its a good addition to the apartment!

Opera Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee

Last weekend I went to Memphis to see Logan perform all over Memphis in his gig he got for 5 weeks. The program was called 30 days of Opera and it was put on and funded by Opera Memphis. It was an awesome program that put on different recitals and concerts throughout Memphis and the surrounding area for free. It was a chance for the public to get a taste of opera and hopefully come and support Opera Memphis when they begin the Main stage productions. 

These shots are from a World Premiere of the Children's Opera "The Playground King." The first opera ever to be set on a Playground...it was awesome! The four of these performers were singing opera and running and playing on a playground.

Logan and Caitlin, tenor and mezzo soprano, playing two kids trying to get the playground king to let them play in the fort. Logan was suppose to be the nerdy kid who told everyone the rules of the playground.

They decided to play knights; Logan was a Jedi Knight and Maria was the knee pad knight, haha!

I love this shot...im pretty sure they are all really laughing! Its a pretty comical children's opera.

Climbing up to the fort...Logan's character was suppose to fall through the ropes...he did that very well! So well, that his microphone pack fell out and he landed on it. There is speculation on whether or not he broke it. :)

To quote Logan, "The falling down was easy...it was the getting back up that sucked!"

Way to stay committed to the role! PS~ he is wearing a transformers shirt!

Moral of the opera; everyone should be allowed to play on the fort. Sharing is caring!

On the town in Memphis:

We went to an Irish Pub called, 'The Brass Door' that had a Hip-Hop artist perform a rap of the story to the opera La Boheme. It was awesome!!

They had awesome food...and beer!

Not sure why I took this picture...probably an affect of the alcohol. 

Last day of my trip they were all singing in a library and I got a video of this beautiful quartet called "Some Other Time" from On the Town. 

DIY Canvases

I went to hobby lobby...again...and I bought some cheap canvases and fabric and made my own canvases. The nice thing about this is that I can continue to buy more fabric and change it up whenever I want. But I really need to stop going to hobby lobby!

Kind of weird colors but I can change it whenever.

Craft projects.

I went online to my sister's Pinterest page and saw her many DIY Projects. I went to hobby lobby the other day and decided to try some.

 

This is the first one I decided to do. I bought a mason jar from hobby lobby and some mod podge for glueing. When I got home I took some old sheet music and cut a heart in the middle of it and then glued it on the outside of the jar. It came out pretty well.

 

 

 

The second project I did I have been waiting to finish for a while now. Both Erin and I have something similar in our bedrooms. I found a lady who makes nine cubes and will put lyrics to a song on them. I got one set for me and one for Erin months ago. I just now got the canvases to put the sheets on and hang them up. The song I put up is "All My Loving" by the Beatles. Logan and I enjoy singing this and harmonizing together...such nerds we are!

 

 

So glad I finally have this up!

 

My next attempt at a project will be to buy some cheap canvases and staple fabric to them. Thank goodness Hobby Lobby has sales a lot.

New Additions to the New Place!

Bought this amazing chair on Overstock.com. I thought it would look cool...and its pretty comfy too!

 

 

 

Thank you IKEA for the cubicle. We are very close to an IKEA...I better be careful or I will turn into my sister and be obsessed with it! Haha.

 

 

 

New set of colorful knives that Logan bought. This should really brighten up our utensil drawer.

Last week with our Texas friends!

Logan and I have a favorite bar...The Flying Saucer! There are lots of locations, but the original one is in Fort Worth, Texas right across the street from Bass Hall. You can get a UFO Card that you use to monitor how many beers you have drank at the saucer. If you try 200 different beers you get a saucer with your name on it and it is placed on the wall at the saucer! The only rule is you can only try 3 different beers a night that will count on your card...so it takes some time. Logan finished his at the beginning of summer and decided to do his party right before we left for Maryland! Along with the saucer they make for you, they also give you $150.00 of free beer for you and friends! It was awesome!

It was a great night...I swear I took more pictures of everyone, but I dont know what happened to them. Oh well, it was great...there was beer, food and friends!

 

 

Another wonderful place we like is Barcadia. A bar with a bunch of old arcade games and huge jenga set to play!
